Extreme Weather Experience (EWE) is a one-of-a-kind concept to develop a national network of weather education-entertainment (edutainment) resilience centers that will include experiential, immersive, interactive, hands-on weather-themed attractions, rides and exhibits. Also included will be an operational weather forecast center, a multi-media broadcast center, and retail.
EWE visitors will “experience” dangerous weather in a very real, almost frightening way, through immersive, experiential technologies. They will “feel, hear, see, and touch” the weather through experiential, immersive, interactive, hands-on weather-themed attractions, rides and exhibits. Visitors will quiver from lightning and thunder, shiver to cold and snowy winds, and sweat in a sultry heatwave. Special effects, animatronics, and the newest cutting-edge, creative technologies, including virtual and augmented reality media platforms will take the visitor into the weather.
Art, music and live theater will also be a part of the visitor’s experience. Even EWE buildings will be educational exhibits, demonstrating resilient code-plus construction against severe weather, and showcasing green technologies.
Behind the EWE entertainment, attractions, the rides, and the special effects, will be education: meteorology, mitigation, resilience, safety, preparedness, etc. EWE education topics will be presented with the attractions, rides and exhibits in a variety of methods and techniques.
The goal is to motivate visitors to take action to prepare, protect, mitigate and safeguard their families, homes and businesses. Visitors will be empowered, and leave with real life changing takeaways resulting in meaningful lifesaving changed behavior. The result will be a nation more resilient to natural hazards!
